EXHIBITON - FREEDOM OF THE SEAS -
Terminal B Kunsthall / Pikene på Broen 8. May - 21. June 2025
Who owns the sea – and who has the right to harvest from it? Freedom of the Seas invites you into an exhibition that explores how power, capital, and globalization challenge the right to the ocean – a right that has long been the very foundation of coastal communities in Norway. Through video works, documentary conversations, photography, and installations, simple yet uncomfortable questions are raised: Who can actually make a living from fishing today? What is a fishing quota worth? And who truly owns the rights to the resources in the ocean? Freedom of the Seas is an invitation to listen, reflect, and discuss who the sea really belongs to – and what is at stake when it is turned into a commodity.
The exhibition is curated by Ingrid Valan.

Actualisation of the history through art.
At the Gleditsch Conference 2025, we will explore how artistic freedom can be maintained and developed in the face of contemporary challenges. We will focus on what "artistic freedom" really means, and who has the power to define it. Is it the artists themselves, the institutions, politicians, or the audience? We ask whether artistic freedom is truly accessible to everyone, or if it is, in practice, a privilege for those who already hold power and positions. Participators; Celina Jerman Bright-Taylor, Erik Ulfsby, Heiki Riipinen, Kristian Dahlberg Hauge, Siri Broch Johansen / Juho-Sire and Siri Hermansen.
ARENDALSUKEN 2025 -12. august 2025 ART, MEMORY, AND DEMOCRACY: WHAT CAN ART CONTRIBUTE DURING UNRULY TIMES?
In this panel discussion, several actors from the art field come together, all engaged in memory work with the specific goal of contributing to democratic development through artistic processes and expressions. Together, we ask: What is the role of art and artists in today's memory culture? How can art provide space for reflection, participation, and resistance in a time marked by unrest? And what value do such contributions hold in the public conversation about community, responsibility, and democracy? Ingeborg Hjorth, Falstad Center Nina Wester, independent director, Elisabeth Hansen, director Trøndelag Theater, Trude Iversen, senior curator Koro, Siri Hermansen, independentartist.

Siri Hermansen´s new film Scarformations will be screend at Varmesentralen at 19.00. Jørn Qviller, former head of the Finnmark Land Defense and now head of the military strategic department in the Defense Staff, will also share his insights on the current relationship between Norway and Russia. The film Arrdannelser is based on an event at the Liberation Monument in Kirkenes in 2023, where a confrontation between Russia's Consul General and the city's Mayor took place. The work sheds light on East Finnmark's dramatic war history, where Soviet forces and Norwegian partisans contributed to the liberation in 1944. At the same time, attention is drawn to how historical alliances, forgotten heroism, and today's geopolitical tensions shape both the landscape and the collective memories of the population in East Finnmark."
